The Training People
“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”
- Lao-Tzu
We also like to show you where the best waters are, how to get there, how to store and cook the fish, and how to become a professional fisherman!
About Us
We have been training people for 15 years and understand intimately how people need to learn. For technical areas, the grounding principles are important as they are built on later. We know where the sticking points are, and we have alternate ways of conveying the information.
Some people work better with close tutoring, some require space to make mistakes in their own way so they can remember ways forward.
Talk to us to go through what works best for you with your chosen package. We can help you find the best way to learn your material and may be able to produce bespoke arrangements.
Learning should be enjoyable - that's how we work
Physical vs. Online
As the country emerges from lockdown, more people will prefer the more natural approach of physical presence. Some materials are best presented in groups where ideas can be tested and the material becomes richer.
We have full online capabilty for one-to-one and groups. Most of the materials, particularly those delivered as a coaching/mentoring package, can be consumed online. However, we are open to how you might like to structure your arrangements.
Training
The focus here is development of new skills or refreshing of old skills. Best suited for technical areas where concepts and process steps are important. Usually a series of short-term modules, but less clarity on a plan for how to apply concepts.
The trainer leads as an expert with expert knowledge and is the owner of the skills transfer to impart knowledge. The goals are identified prior to the start of a module and support occurs largely at the time of the session(s).
Coaching
Usually for developing existing skills and increasing confidence. Focus is on the longer term and bigger objectives and considers how to achieve things by developing the experience of the person, not the skill. Modules are usually 1-2 hours and the ownership of actions is with the learner who is working toward specifc goals.
The coach is responsible for asking the right questions and exploring specific areas the learner confronts. This requires an increased use of application of skills and awareness of behaviours.
Mentoring
Focusses on a longer term development and shared experiences with learner. A mentor may work with a learner for a considerable time and often provides a transformational experience by shared ownership of issues.
The mentor is considered the expert and leads the process by means of questions and exploration of hierarchical goals. The results are experiencial change and an evolving agenda over time. The learner increases confidence in direction with career, roles and functions.
